Privacy Policy

To ensure balance between an individual’s right to protect his or her personal information and the need to collect, use or disclose personal information for reasonable business purposes, I comply with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Personal information describes information that can be associated with a specific person and can be used to identify that person. Types of personal information collected for business purposes may include your name, personal email address, personal cellular phone number, home address and home telephone. Please note that under PIPA, work contact information is not considered to be personal information. 

This notice explains collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information and how it is protected. This applies to this website and all applications, services and tools that may be used to collect and store your information.


Why personal information is collected
The purpose for collection is to provide service and support to clients and to potential clients who contact me. Although I primarily collect only work contact information, some of our clients may provide me with personal information as an alternative means of contact. If this is the case, I may use your personal information to:
    • provide information to you,
    • contact you by email or phone to confirm a meeting; and,
    • provide services and client support.


Consent
I ensure that individuals understand the nature, purposes and consequences of what they are consenting to, at or before the time of personal information collection. 


Disclosure
I do not rent or sell any personal information collected from you with any third parties. Unless I am required to share personal information as a part of an internal investigation or other law enforcement purpose, or as required by law, personal information is shared with third parties only when you have provided oral or written consent.


How personal information is protected and stored
I protect your information using administrative, physical and technical safeguards to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure and alteration. Sensitive information is accessible to only those employees who need to know, locked cabinets are used for paper storage of personal information, and passwords are used on computers and for application access. Any personal information you provide is processed and stored in Canada, with the exception of contact information that is initially collected through our website, which resides in a server in the United States. 

In cases where my clients provide me with access to their systems and the personal information under their custody and control, confidentiality agreements are signed and I check to ensure these clients have appropriate safeguards in place. 


Retention and destruction
I retain personal information for as long as the business purpose for which the information was originally collected remains valid or as required by law. Papers are cross-shredded, digital flies are deleted and trashed, and hard drives are wiped and destroyed before discarding them. 


Your privacy rights and how I support them

  • Individuals have the right to withdraw consent. Individuals may withdraw their consent for personal information collection at any time, in writing, with reasonable notice to me However, consent cannot be withdrawn retroactively and I require proof of identity to fulfill the request. 
  • Individuals have the right to access the personal information that an organization holds about them. To access your information, submit a written request to me, the Privacy Officer. I require proof of identity to fulfill the request. 
  • Individuals have the right to ensure the personal information that an organization holds about them is accurate and complete. To update your information, submit a written request to me. As the Privacy Officer, I require proof of identity to fulfill the request. 
  • Individuals have the right to restrict processing of their personal information. If you don’t want me to process your information in a particular way, you can request that I process it in an alternative way or not process it, by submitting a written request to me. As the Privacy Officer, I require proof of identity to fulfill the request. 
  • Individuals have the right to erasure of their personal information. If you want your personal information removed from my systems and files before the retention period reaches the destruction date, submit a written request to me. As the Privacy Officer, I require proof of identity to fulfill the request.

Not satisfied with my response? 

If I haven’t responded to your privacy questions, concerns or complaints within 30 days, or you are unsatisfied with my response within 30 days of receiving it, you may contact the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia to ask for a review or make a complaint.
